How can you be still believing in these 5 myths about mobile battery charging!

The pandemic has put a mobile phone even on the kids’ palm and digital literacy is the of the hour more than ever. Right from regular break timings to healthy charging practices, it has become very mandatory to learn few facts and to unlearn a few myths. Here in this article, we will debunk the commonly associated myths about charging your mobile phone and the non-factual myths about mobile batteries.

Myth 1: You cannot charge your mobile overnight

One of the oldest myths right from the times when our parents started using mobile phones has been not to deplete the battery life of your mobile phones by charging it overnight. However, this was the case earlier when the mobile phones were using nickel ion batteries. They did suffer due to overnight charging. Of late, all mobile phones come with a lithium ion batteries which are smart enough to object the power inflow once they are charged to 100%. So, it is completely safe to charge your mobile phones overnight and in fact the best way to juice up your mobile for the next day.

Myth 2: Killing apps will save you battery life

Again, this is also one of the widely believed myth about mobile batteries life. What most don’t know yet is that the battery consumption is in fact higher when an app is closed and restarted later than it is kept running in the background. If you are low on juice and look forward to last it until you get home, you should be turning your phone to Low power mode (iPhone) or Battery Save Feature (Android) for optimal power consumption.

Myth 3: Using turbo charger or fast chargers affects your battery life

Contrary to the above discussed myths, this is a new age myth that is believed even by the millennials. Fast chargers are nothing but normal chargers with higher output current to speed up your charging process. Slower or speeder charging determines only the time required for your mobile to juice up completely and does not impact the life of your battery in anyway. So, it is time you start using turbo or fast chargers whenever possible to save time.

Myth 4: Wait for the battery to drain before charging your mobile

This is again one of the most misleading practices which not only does nothing to increase the battery life, but also affects your battery life on the long run. Every phone has a fixed charge cycle, i.e., the maximum number of times you can let the mobile drain to 0% battery. On an average, mobile phones have 400-500 cycles and if you keep letting your battery drain to 0% for 400 times, then you might have to replace your battery. So, it is a good practice to juice up your mobile when you’re anywhere below 30%.

Myth 5: Charging mobile via computer or laptop damages the battery

The output power from a computer or laptop is typically lower than what your normal mobile charger provides and hence the speed at which your mobile charges to 100% maybe slower. Like we already stated, slower charging determines only the time required for your mobile to juice up completely and does not impact the life of your battery in anyway. You don’t have to worry about it.
