How to regram (share) posts on Instagram?

When was the last time you woke up to a shocking news on TV or newspaper? Take a moment for yourself and think it deep. The most probable answer would be beyond our memory. Such is the volume of news that breaks on the internet minutes after it occurs. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts for a lion’s share of news-bytes we consume in our regular day to day life. The wonder of such a lifestyle is that around 80% of the factual information or breaking news that we see on our news feeds are organic, i.e., read and shared by our friends and followers. That’s like a social compounding effect and minutes after sharing, the topic starts to take the centerstage.

What is regram?

While Facebook allows you to share the posts and Twitter allows you to retweet the tweets for easier sharing, Instagram doesn’t allow you to share posts directly. This process of giving a shout out to someone else’s post on Instagram via your Instagram account is generally referred to regram in the social media parlance.

How to regram?

As already stated, you cannot directly share the Instagram posts of other accounts. You have to seek their formal permission to do so in order to avoid copyright issues or strikes. There isn’t any special feature or option to do this and so you have to pick one amongst commenting or sending a DM.

Method 1: Regram manually with screenshot

Though it’s a common practice that people screenshot the post and upload it on their account with credits mentioned in the caption, it still is violation of the Instagram policy.

Step 1: Open Instagram on your mobile.

Step 2: Locate the post you want to regram.

Step 3: Take a screenshot of the post.

Step 4: Crop out the captions and other content in the screenshot.

Step 5: Upload the photo to Instagram from your account.

Step 6: Proceed to the caption writing page without applying any filters on the photo.

Step 7: Paste the exact same caption of the original post.

Step 8: Add “Credits: <@owner username>” at the beginning of the caption.

Step 9: Post the picture.

Method 2: Regram via 3rd party apps

There are many third party apps which allow you to regram easily just by copying and pasting the link in the app, however Techmye suggests you to use Sprout Social app as the app has been consistently helping users without any glitch or ads unlike the other apps.

Step 1: Open Instagram on your mobile.

Step 2: Locate the post you want to regram.

Step 3: Tap the three dots on the post and copy the link to the post.

Step 4: Download and open Sprout Social app. You can download the app from this link.

Step 5: You’ll be prompted to paste the copied link.

Step 6: Tap Got it.

Step 7: Tap Schedule or Queue or Repost Now based on when you want to post the picture.

The account’s name, username and first few caption lines are copied over.

Important Note: Instagram allows regram feature only for the business accounts and official Instagram partner accounts (read this page to know more on Facebook Business Partner policy). Sprout Social supports regraming of the posts shared only by such accounts. Any other apps supporting regraming of individual UGC (user generated content) is spurious and risks your account towards legal action.
