Google Meet is seeing a dire growth in its user count right now like all other video conferencing solutions. Google Meet allows its users to conduct meetings with up to 250 participants simultaneously. It also allows you to view a maximum of 16 participants when viewing each one of them in a grid pattern.
What is Google Meet Grid View
When a meeting happens, a lot of people in the meeting will discuss and share their ideas. So, you might want to see many participants as you can on your screen. Google Meet currently allows you to view up to 16 participants during conference calls via Grid format. This article, will provide you steps to install and use Grid View on Google Meet.
Google Meet keeps updating its product features and one of the features is the tiled layout using the Google grid view extension. Google Grid View extensions latest update happened on July 11, 2020. This Google Meet Grid View extension does not work on mobile devices. Also, if you are using your organization or educational account they may have automatically pushed this extension out to you.

Install Google Meet Grid view on PC
You can add the extension to Google Chrome browser, Firefox browser, and Microsoft Edge. To add the extension to your browser, follow the below steps:
Step 1:Install the Google Meet Grid View,
You can search in your browser for Google Meet Grid View extension or you can download the Grid View extension from the above links (Official Releases)
Step 2:Sign in to your Gmail account to download the Grid View extension
Step 3:Click on Add to Chrome Button to install the extension and give permission
Step 4: The extension will pop up in your tool bar and the grid box will be visible on the right hand corner of your Google Meet. Now Open Google Meet in your browser.
Step 5: Join a meeting with the meeting code or link, Give access to your microphone and Camera. Tap on the Ask to join to join the meeting.
Step 6: When the meeting is live, you’ll notice a new grid button on the left side of the people button on the top right corner.
Step 7: Check the box adjacent to the ‘Enable grid view by default’ option. This will regroup all the video feeds on Google Meet in Grid form.
Step 8: You can check the following boxes to enable a more personalized grid view
- Only show participants with video: Since participants can still be available in a meeting with their webcam turned OFF, there’s no point showing them on the grid view. Checking this box will only allow participants with video to be shown on your screen.
- Include yourself in the grid: Check this box if you wish to see your own video feed inside the grid along with other members of the video meeting.
- Enable Screen Capture mode: With this option, you will be able to lock your video grid in the 16:9 aspect ratio, disable the name of participants, and also lock all of their videos in place so that you can capture the screen at a given time.
How to disable Grid View on Google Meet
If you want to disable the Grid View in Google Meet, you can do that by unchecking the Grid icon at the top right corner of your Google Meet. Find and uncheck the box “Enable Grid view by default”. This will revert your layout back to the default layout.
Please note you have to be inside the Google Meeting before you click on the Grid View extension icon. Google Meet Grid View is a great extension to help everyone feel like they are more connected with their group. Happy Google Meeting!
