We just heard a handful of exciting reveals and updates to Google’s software and hardware launches planned for release later this year and now the expectations for Apple WWDC are sky rocketing for obvious reasons. The two big tech giants are hosting their yearly developer conference for consecutive months now and it feels like Christmas already for the tech enthusiasts. What is Apple WWDC 2022?
WWDC is an acronym for Worldwide Developers Conference, where the Apple fans and enthusiasts along with the developers can attend sessions and meet with Apple engineers. The event is an annual conference hosted by Apple and also provide a show-off of their nextgen major features and new version of their upcoming operating system. Public betas version of the OSs will be available in the following months and weeks for enthusiasts to try.
Apple’s 2022 event will run from June 6 through 10 and will be a free digital event for everyone to enjoy.
iOS 16
While many things have changed over the years, new iOS version update is one of the things that have long remained as a constant and an exciting update in Apple’s WWDC history. So, it is a no brainer to expect iOS 16, the new operating system for Apple’s mobile device, iPhone.
While there are no major design changes planned for iOS 16, there are a handful of exciting features planned for iOS 16.
- Notifications – A major rethinking of the iPhone notifications are expected though there are no clear information on what’s changing.
- Health App – An extended sleep tracking, and medicine management tool is set to debut. Also, new women-centered health features to be added.
iPadOS 16
Almost every feature/update provided to iOS are usually carried to iPadOS. Along with the iOS 16 updates, a new multitasking interface can be expected for Apple iPad.
While a lot of Apple enthusiasts were pretty upset about the iPadOS 15 not providing enough capabilities, with the introduction of M1 chips on almost all iPads, rumors suggest that the upcoming iPads will be capable of running Mac apps.
macOS 13
The version name for Apple’s notebook operating system has dropped the decimal and is getting new and exclusive version for themselves along with popular California-based destination names. So, the new macOS is expected to be versioned as macOS 13 and named as Mammoth, referring to the Mammoth lakes.
Though there isn’t any news on big features for macOS 13 yet, with Macbooks becoming more and more closely knit to the Apple ecosystem, we are expecting closer integration with iOS and iPadOS devices. The previous versions brought in Universal Control, SharePlay, Continuity, etc and the list of shared features are expected to only grow with the upcoming update.
watchOS 9
Apple is expected to add a lot of exercise and activity types to its existing portfolio.
Also, closer integration to Apple HomeKit, Apple Pay, Apple Fitness Plus, Notes app are all expected to be revealed for the watchOS 9.
Other Hardware updates
Though the WWDC is a developer conference and mainly focuses on software updates, it is becoming a place to also reveal hardware updates. So, this season, we are expecting news about a new Apple VR/AR headset and a new MacBook Air 2022.
