Google rolled out a new version of its video conferencing solution, Google Meet last week. While the existing features remain untouched, the appearance and AI powered new version of the solution has gained some serious improvements.
The below are some of the most discussed aspects of the new version of Google Meet:
More obvious meeting code:
The meeting code of the particular ongoing meeting is now obviously displayed by default. Each meeting is given a unique meeting code. To facilitate the users in reading the code, the code is constantly displayed on the bottom left of the screen.
Time indication:
Your local time is being displayed on the meeting screen throughout. This becomes handy when you are on full-screen mode of Google Meet. You can directly view the time rather than exiting the full-screen mode and looking at your computer time.
Revamped Meeting Controls:
The meeting control options such as microphone, camera, captions, hand raise, present now, options are all listed in the bottom bar, to provide one-click access to the user. Also, the disconnect button has been intelligently placed at the last to avoid mis-clicking it during audio or video adjustments.
Another striking advantage is this bottom bar is always visible to you to ensure your audio/video status. You never have to doubt it anymore.
Meeting Info:
The invite link for the meeting was earlier placed on the bottom-left of the screen. Now, the information on the meeting along with the invite link for the meeting are placed on the right side of the screen.
You can click on the Meeting details
button to view the Google Meet URL, Dial-in number, PIN, or to copy the meeting invite info.
Other options
Other meeting options such as participants, chat options and activities are all placed on the bottom-right as usual.
Pinning video feeds:
You can pin a video presentation or a specific participant on your screen to view the particular feed enlarged on your screen. Upon unpinning the same, the video feed reduces to the normal size of the other feeds/participants in the meeting.
AI powered focus
We already know Google Meet apps provides auto-adjustment of brightness based on your environment’s light set-up. Now, Google Meet’s new web solution supports this feature and also provides auto-zoom. The Autozoom recognizes your face and automatically focuses you to the center of the square to provide maximum attention.
The new UI layout positions the elements in a way to provide an easier access for users to make the meetings more productive. Also, in the upcoming months, Google promises to provide us more features such as pinning the video feeds.
