Why is Clubhouse so popular? – A breakdown on the new age entertainment

As everyone across the globe are aware, Clubhouse is a rage in the entertainment industry of late. The new audio-based entertainment platform took the world by surprise in the late 2020 when the world was trying to cope up with the pandemic. Since then, there has been exponential growth in the userbase of Clubhouse and the new-age voice app hasn’t looked back since then.

Followed by the success of the medium, there were several attempts from popular internet giants to hijack the niche created by Clubhouse, however none seem to have succeeded. The music streaming giant Spotify made headlines when it launched Spotify Greenroom. Soon after Spotify, Facebook brought in a feature, Live Audio to cater to the audio-only content. Twitter launched a similar feature, Twitter Space which was a hit amongst the Twitter users right from the launch.

Looking at the hindsight, other platforms (with the exception of Twitter Spaces) are lost in the success of Clubhouse. Unlike other platforms, Clubhouse leads the growth and is growing the engagement ratio to greater heights. One of the popular reasons why the app is so successful is the first-come factor which allowed Clubhouse to attract a lot of influencers and celebrities to establish a business model which became enough reason to not ditch the platform for other alternatives. Some of the platform’s celebrity figures include Elon Musk, Jared Leto, Mark Zuckerberg, Oprah Winfrey, and Kevin Hart.

While the initial days of Clubhouse were operated on invite-only basis and exclusively for iOS users, soon after the limitations were removed, the platform became a modern-day virtual dais for people across ages and region to discuss and speak out their ideas. Thanks to the simplicity of the app which the other players in the industry are not able to crack.

Now let us look at the top 3 reasons why Clubhouse continues to be the most sought out app in the voice entertainment platform:

Rooms

The fundamental difference between this voice interaction platform and other social media such as Facebook, Instagram is the privacy factor. People are more concerned about their voice interaction than the content they post on other mediums. So, Clubhouse was smart and right to the point when they introduced a virtual room within which the discussions occur. A room is basically a closed space where you can join or invite people of your choice and discuss topics of your interest. You can name a room and allow public to join it while you are discussing or choose to keep it discreet with your people.

Moderation

Unlike Facebook or Twitter, the platform is live and stays in the present. Though the level of interaction and entertainment peaks this way, at times it becomes too much of nuisance with wrong kind of people in the room. So, to control the interaction and moderate the people in the room, Clubhouse provides admin-like capabilities to moderators helping them control the people in the room to speak and to mute them as required. With the growth of popularity, users are flooding into Clubhouse rooms and it becomes increasingly difficult for admins to manage them, hence the moderation capabilities are very helpful.

Sharing

Clubhouse is a new rage and it is only logical to expect users to share the content to other platforms. Clubhouse provides an opportunity to share the audio chat rooms and scheduled talks via email. The content can be downloaded to make it your original content for your podcast, remixes, short clips, or whatever else.
