What’s new in iOS 14.2?

The most exciting part of this new iOS 14.2 is that it brings a bunch of new emojis with 100+ variants inclusive of new animals, ninjas and more importantly, gender neutral emojis. Along with the emojis, Apple is bringing in a set of 8 new wallpapers.

Though the emojis and wallpapers are making much of the noise amongst the Apple fans, it is the other part of the updates that holds the higher value for the iPhones. Some of the key highlights are listed below:

  • People Detection: With the new update, the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone Pro Max mobile owners can detect people nearby with the LiDAR sensor via Magnifier options. That’s one of the most exciting LiDAR technology usage which the Apple iPhone 12 Pro models alone have in the industry.
  • Shazam Music Detection: Shazam powered music recognition option is made to be available by default at the control centre for easier and quicker music detection. The new update allows you to recognize even the music played on the apps on your phone directly.
  • Shareable Exposure notification: You can choose to share your exposure notifications record to the Public Health Authorities of your country with the new iOS 14.2.
  • Audio Level Alert: An alert to warn you when your headphone volume is raised beyond the level that can possibly impact your hearing.

Along with the above stated features, new updates to Intercom controls using Apple HomePod, charging issues on Apple AirPods, and UI level updates to the Apple Watch owners have been rolled out. Also, multiple fixes including the trivial issues on type-sensing issues on lock screen, weather widgets, voice memos, photos widgets, and reminders are all fixed. And more importantly, the dark screen issue is addressed in this new update.

What’s unanswered in iOS 14.2?

The browser and email app resetting the defaults (introduced during iOS 14.1) is still unanswered directly on Apple’s release statement. However, with a couple of days with the new iOS 14.2, Techmye team hasn’t faced the issue yet and we believe the issue maybe fixed under the carpet.

We’ve experienced the new update from Apple and also observed the internet for users’ experiences. Though there has been some unpopular reports on 5G WiFi connectivity issues, Health data synchronization issues and some inconsistent vibration reports on this Apple’s new iOS 14.2, we think this is one of the most stable upgrades to Apple’s OS for iPhones.
